The Garden sciSCREEN: Tuesday November 9th.

The next Cardiff sciSCREEN will be on Tuesday November 9th from 6pm when we will be screening ‘The Garden’ in Cinema One at Chapter Arts Centre. Directed by Scott Hamilton Kennedy and nominated for the Best Documentary Academy award, the film highlights the plight of a community of people who built a 14 acre garden in South Central Los Angeles, growing their own food and feeding their families. The Garden tells the story of a struggle between these urban farmers, and the City of Los Angeles and a powerful developer who wants to evict them. We will use the film to discuss ideas of sustainability, class and food consumption, biodiversity, urban food growing and vulnerable communities. Confirmed speakers include:

Dr. Hilary Rogers (School of Biosciences)
Dr. Diego Vazquez (The ESRC Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society)
Jess Paddock (The School of Social Sciences)
Arthur Getz (The School of City and Regional Planning)
Steve Garrett (Riverside Market)

This sciSCREEN is funded by the ESRC Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS) as part of Cardiff University Sustainability Week. Tickets are available here or by contacting Chapter Arts Centre directly on 02920 304400.
