The next Cardiff sciSCREEN will be a special Halloween screening of the 1920 horror masterpiece, Der Golem. Directed by Carl Boese and Paul Wegener, the film tells the story of a rabbi who creates a giant creature from clay, the Golem, to defend Jews in Prague from persecution. We will use the film to discuss the role of gothic and monstrosity in science and film, the philosophy of vitalism, and the representation of myth and folklore in film and TV, and Jewishness and Judaism on film and TV. The screening will include live music accompaniment from Reflektor – Jan Kopinski (saxophone) and Steve Iliffe (keyboards).
